How to Choose a Good POE Injector?

Nov. 24, 2021

In recent years, as PoE power supply technology has matured, it has been widely used in various fields. In addition to PoE switches, PoE adapter products such as PoE power injectors and PoE splitters are also commonly used in network systems.

Among them, PoE injector has become the new favorite of application scenarios such as wireless coverage and security monitoring by virtue of its advantages of simple equipment installation, flexible networking, low cost, and safety.

What is a PoE power injector?

PoE injector is also called mid-span device, power injector or PoE adapter. It usually connects a non-PoE switch and a PoE-powered device (PD) with a network cable to work. This equipment is generally suitable for places that need to install low-power terminal devices but lack power outlets. This solution realizes a PoE injector for a terminal device at a lower cost, improves the flexibility of network networking, and makes equipment installation no longer restricted by regions and existing network architectures.

How to Choose a Good POE Injector?

The advantages of a PoE injector?

Easy to install: Just connect the POE injector to a PoE terminal equipment and a switch to provide power and data transmission support.

Easy to expand: Power signals can be injected into the data signals output by non-PoE switches through network cables, so as to provide power and data transmission support for the powered devices at the same time, which brings convenience to device connection.

Save money: Maintain the original network architecture on the basis of the original equipment, but reduce the laying of a large number of power pipelines. This convenience also helps users save the expense of buying a new PoE switch.

Market demand has spurred the development of the PoE injector market. Various types of PoE injectors are emerging: 15W, 30W, 60W, and 90W PoE power supplies conforming to the IEEE802.3af/at/bt standard, providing network and power supply.

So, facing such a wide range of products, how to choose a PoE injector you need?

How to choose a PoE injector?

1. Choose the PoE injector with the right number of ports

PoE injectors have multiple port models, such as single port, dual port, 4, 8, 12, 16 and so on. If there is only one terminal device, select a single-port PoE injector. If there are several PoE terminal devices, you can consider a multi-port PoE power injector, and ensure that the number of PoE power injector ports matches.

If you choose a multi-port PoE injector, it will be better to spare 1-2 ports as an emergency backup in the future.

2. select a Standardized PoE injector

Generally, the 802.3af/at or 802.3bt standard power supply voltage is 44-57V (DC), and the operating voltage of non-standard PoE devices is generally 18-48V (DC). If the voltage values of the two connected devices do not match, the device may be damaged.

3. The output power of the power supply should be higher than the total rated power of the terminal device

Different PD devices (PoE terminal equipment, such as cameras, etc.) need different power wattage. When selecting a matching PSE (power supply device), PSE's output power should be higher than the rated power of the PD. If you choose a multi-port PoE power supply, the total actual output power of the PSE should be higher than the sum of the rated power of all powered devices to avoid overload.

4. Network transmission rate

PoE power supply mainly has two types of data transmission rates: 10/100Base-T adaptive and 10/100/1000Base-T adaptive. If you need a gigabit transmission rate, you must choose a gigabit power supply, otherwise, the transmission rate will be automatically descending.

Procet PoE power supply products all support 10/100/1000M adaptive transmission rate, and some POE injectors' transmission rate can reach 10000 Mbps/10Gbps. Unbelievable transmission technology makes Procet leading in the world!
